This course examines various controversial issues facing modern biological sciences. Each week, two students will debate about opposing sides of a given issue. The class will then determine which approach is more valid.
The five branches of biology that we will explore in this course are:
* Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
* Cell and Developmental Biology
* Genetics and Genomes
* Immunology and Pathogenesis
* Neurobiology
Past debate topics include pre-embryonic research, designer babies, surrogacy, euthanasia, the distribution of antibiotics, genetically modified organisms, the legitimacy and effectiveness of antidepressants, and incorporating neurology data into the legal system.
No prior debate experience is required.
