Fall 2009
Molecular and Cell Biology 198
1 Unit(s)

About the Course:

Evolutionary biology has a lot to offer to our understanding and treatment of diseases. This course is a survey of topics in the evolution of human disease. We will learn about how host-pathogen interactions have shaped the evolution of both the pathogen and the host. Each meeting will focus on a specific human disease and one aspect of its evolutionary history. The focal point for discussion will be a recent primary literature paper. Papers will highlight current techniques in molecular evolution and the molecular biology of host-pathogen interactions. These papers will hopefully give us insight into future research directions in disease evolution and treatment.

How to Enroll:

This class is for upper level students interested in molecular biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, or public health. We still have one spot left in the class as of 9/7/09!
