Spring 2009 - Linguistics 98/198 - Units: 2
Shortcuts: decal.org/954 decal.org/batman
This course examines Batman as American mythology and beyond! Because no mythology exists in a vacuum, we will compare Batman to various real-life contexts and influences. During class time we will watch shorter visual content during class and will show longer ones during weekend movie screenings. Course content will encompass Batman cartoons, TV shows, serials, movies, and comics, analyzed in terms of three broad disciplines:
- History: Batman’s evolution through each decade suiting current trends
- Sociology: Social changes reflected in specific Batman works
- Psychology: Psychological cases and concepts portrayed by Batman and other characters
