About the Course:

This course is for students who are interested in becoming members of a student policy organization that offers:

·      Forums for discussing current events and progressive ideas relevant to national, local, and campus issues, with specific emphasis on the state of California.

·     Leadership opportunities such as recruitment for policy director positions and participation in the nation's first and only student-run think tank, The Roosevelt Institute.

·      Introduction to academic programs within the Goldman School of Public Policy with unit credit applicable towards the UC Berkeley Public Policy minor.

·      Access to policy-themed job, internship, and scholarship databases through the national Roosevelt Institute Campus Network as well as alumni and UC faculty contributors.

Weekly guest lecturers from various departments and organizations around Berkeley will discuss key topics including campus policy, equal justice, energy, international trade, and digital security policy.  In addition to class discussions, students will work together to collaboratively produce policy pieces. This class will aid students in thinking critically about current policy issues, facilitate debate and discussion, and help organize, produce and promote student work.
