About the Course:

In the lecture section, we will go in-depth into the science of modern digital photography. Lectures will cover basics such as metering, ISO, aperture, shutter speed and will cover issues like blur and noise. Lectures will also cover depth of field, dynamic range and color balance. This course is not an aesthetics course. The course is intended for students with any level of experience in photography.

The discussion section will go more in-depth on the topics covered in lecture. The discussion will also revolve around how concepts learned in lecture apply to real-life situations.

It is recommended that you own a DSLR, however for the lecture, it is not required. Students must have a DSLR for the discussion section.

Grade in lecture will be based on weekly quizzes. Grade in discussion will be based on completion of semi-weekly photo assignments.

The discussion is optional.

If you have questions, please go to our webpage (http://www.kellenfreeman.com/decal.html) and check out the FAQs. If your question is not answered there, then feel free to email one or both of us.

How to Enroll:

If you are interested in taking the class, show up to the first session, on Wednesday, Sept. 8. CCNs will be distributed in class.

There are 100 total positions in the lecture class (50 lower div and 50 upper div) and 26 total positions in the discussion (13 lower div and 13 upper div). The lecture will be purely first come, first served. Discussion will depend on level of interest. If there are more people interested in taking it than there are positions in the class, we will use an application process.

Remember that if you want to take the discussion, you MUST be concurrently enrolled in the lecture (or you must have taken the lecture in a previous semester).
