About the Course:

This course teaches graphic design through the use of Photoshop and Illustrator. Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS5 will be taught in a series of tutorials complemented with exercises to perform during class and at home. These exercises give students the opportunity to practice the tools, create designs, and exercise their creativity. We will also explore graphic design trends and their applications, and learn to receive and give critiques in order to improve your design work. We hope to make this a fun and rewarding class.

Structure: Each week, Photoshop will be taught in demos and step-by-step tutorials that you shall follow on your own computer. Following the tutorials, you will be given the opportunity to practice what you learned in assignments that you shall complete on your own time and in class during small group work time.

Attendance: This class will meet for 2 hours every Wednesday from 7-9pm. Attendance is mandatory and will be taken on a weekly basis. Students with more than 2 unexcused absences will be failed.

Grading: Student performance will be monitored through weekly homework assignments graded on a point system based on completion, effort, and demonstration of their ability to use the tools taught during class. The final Photoshop and design project will be graded on creativity and effort. Points will be given for attendance, engagement in the lessons, and participation in discussions and critiques.

Required Materials: All students must have their own laptop (PC or Mac) and Adobe Photoshop (CS3 and above). If you do not have your own Photoshop, you can download the free year-long trial of CS5 at http://technology.berkeley.edu/productivity-suite/adobe/index.html. 

How to Enroll:

Thank you to everyone who applied to our decal. We had an overwhelming response of 300+ applicants for a 30 student class and it was a very challenging selection process. Congratulations to the 30 students who got accepted in the decal, you should have received an email with ccns and a cec. Those on the wait list will receive a separate email. Unfortunately our class is capped at 30 and those who have not heard back have not been accepted, we will send out further confirmation. We apologize for the delay. All decal lessons are welcome to be audited by Innovative Design club members, come to the first lesson THIS Wednesday, 7-9 pm 122 Wheeler to pay membership and become a member!
