About the Course:

This class is a 14-week introduction to design theory and practice, with a focus on human centered design.  We will look at skills ranging from brainstorming, creative thinking to sketching, prototyping etc.

The course meets weekly for two hours for discussions, guest speakers, hands-on activities, and project “crit” sessions. With a focus on product design, we will explore multiple facets like ecofriendly/green design, humanitarian design, persuasive design, aesthetics etc.

No previous design experience required, however it is imperative that students have an open mind, a willingness to get out of their comfort zone, and a sense of humor.

Students will be evaluated based on attendance, participation in discussions, activities and crit sessions, and completion of projects. Two design projects must be completed by the end of the semester, with each project reflecting an increasing level of conceptual refinement. Participation in class discussions will reflect on the completion of assigned readings.

How to Enroll:

You must come to the first day of class! Depending on the number of applicants and class size, we may have to determine via lottery who can enroll.
