About the Course:

The Berkeley Fiction Review publishes short stories of various styles in an annual magazine, from the mainstream to the experimental, but we do not publish poetry or non-fiction.  We are working towards attaining a national reputation as a leader in publishing the best contemporary short fiction.  We will discuss the processes of story and art selection, layout, copyediting, fundraising and marketing, as well as the more general topics of the small press.  Students in the class will play an integral part in the production of the magazine and should come out of the class with an in-depth knowledge of the editorial selection process and a broader appreciation of small-press publishing.

How to Enroll:

Enrollment will be processed on a first come, first served basis. Email the course facilitator directly stating the following information: full name, email, whether you're upper or lower (98/198) division, your graduation year, and a sentence or two about why you are interested in the BFR DeCal, or what you hope to learn about during the course.

There are 20 lower and 30 upper division slots available. You will receive a response that informs you of whether you are enrolled or wait-listed after the initial email. CCN's will not be distributed until the first class meeting which is mandatory if you wish to stay enrolled.

Class is every Wednesday in 200 Wheeler, from 5:30 to 7:00pm. Attendance is mandatory.

The first day of class is Wednesday, September 7th.
