About the Course:
This course will focus on organizing an event on campus to raise awareness about the violent conflict in Northern Uganda through the film ‘Invisible Children’. The documentary exposes the effects of a 20 year-long war on the children of Northern Uganda. This film narrates the untold stories of children who are being forced to fight as part of a violent army. The goal of the course is to hold a film screening of this powerful documentary and to raise money for these invisible children. Class discussions will touch on issues like gender, race, religion, fear, poverty, and politics. We will also discuss the history of the war and army, the tactics the army uses (e.g. child abduction, fear, manipulation), and the effects of using children as both the weapons and victims of warfare.
