About the Course:

This course will introduce students to the techniques of longform improvisation, a specific approach to live comedy popularized by the large number of comic actors in film and television who have a background in this style.

The defining characteristic of longform improv is the creation of a scene. Longform scenes function much like scenes in films or plays, grounded in character development and relationships, and a given longform improv format ties a series of these scenes into a loose narrative. Students will be trained to lose their inhibitions and use teamwork to build well-developed scenes. In addition, students will become better actors, increasing their range of characters through vocal and physical exercises. Class meetings will consist of a short lecture followed by fun, energetic games and improv practice.

How to Enroll:

We have a limited number of spaces; therefore, the first class meeting will consist of interviews. These will not be auditions; applicants will be judged by enthusiasm and level of commitment, not experience.

Interviews will take place on the first day of class (9/11/08).  Everyone interested MUST attend the first meeting and interview.  Those who email the facilitator in advance will interview earlier in the evening.
