Modern Chinese Art
About the Course:
Chinese art has undergone a series of unprecedented shocks and transformations in the last century. From China’s turbulent recent history to the introduction of Western art, Chinese artists have negotiated or ignored polarizing influences in their work. Take this course to learn about Communist art programs, and how Mao continues to influence pop art from the grave. Find out about the burgeoning community of avant-garde artists in Beijing, and about how the fall of the Qing dynasty revolutionized traditional Chinese art forms.
