About the Course:

No prior knowledge of Iran or the Middle East is required for this course. This course is an introduction to contemporary Iranian foreign and domestic politics. Topics of discussion include the coup d’etat against Prime Minister Mossadeq (1953), the Iranian Revolution (1979), the Reform Movement (1997), and the recent rise of the radical movement led by Ahmadinejad (2005). We will also talk in depth about the history and future of Iran’s nuclear activities, Iran’s role in Iraq, the Shia-Sunni divide in the Middle East, and the recent conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Documentaries, films, guest lectures, and class discussions are integral parts of this decal. This is the seventh semester that this course is being offered.
