L-Chem 101: Research in Medicine and Life
About the Course:
L-Chem 101, or “Life Chemistry”, intends to examine the wide and far-reaching applications of basic chemistry in “Life” and living systems research and recent developments. It seeks to do this through weekly presentations given by esteemed researchers and faculty working at Cal on:
1)Aspects of their research that link concepts of chemistry and outside sciences learned in lower division science courses to understanding specific functions of molecules in living organisms
(and/or)
2)Particular molecules/atoms/compounds/systems of interest that play an important part in medicine or functionality in other living systems.
Presenters will be given 45 minutes to give a lecture in terms and concepts comprehensible by lower-division undergraduates, and are encouraged to use drawings, paper handouts, PowerPoint, and safe, interactive demos to convey their lecture material.
