About the Course:
The course will focus on three California specific geographical areas: the ocean and coastal region, mountains, and the city or urban landscape. Each area will be studied progressively: first, a general geographical history and understanding of the area, second, a lesson in safety, and third, a focused study of the area-specific extreme sports. Students will not only be provided with an enriching academic space to connect personal athletic pop-culture to its natural origins, but they will also leave with a general knowledge of California geography and safety. Sports covered: surfing, kite boarding, ski/snowboarding, skateboaring, base jumping (ect.). Course includes professional athletes as guest lecturerers in their respective fields.
