About the Course:

Over the course of the semester, we will do a survey of all the work that goes into making a comic book. We will go over basic concepts in the history of comics, script writing, basic drawing skills, panel continuity, character design, penciling, inking, lettering, cover art, and other stuff too.

Every week will deal with a different aspect of the comic book-making process.

The final project is to MAKE your own 12-page comic book. In addition to the final project, there will be short 1-page assignments throughout the semester. These will be intermittent and painless, we promise.

Class meets once a week, for 90 minutes. The first half hour will be lecture/discussion, with the rest of the time opening up for working on your comic and getting peer input. The idea is to create a friendly environment where aspiring comic book writers/artists can share their cool ideas with each other and bring an idea to fruition.

Also, this class has optional readings that will be made available at Comic Relief for a discount price.

How to Enroll:

Show up on the first day. We’d like to accept everybody, but whether this will be feasible will depend on how in-demand this class will be.

It will be preferable if you have some kind of writing/drawing experience, but please don’t be discouraged if you have no experience at all. We all have to start somewhere, right?

UPDATE1 : You are certainly welcome to bring a portfolio if you wish, but getting into the class does NOT require art samples or an application. Showing up on the first day shall suffice, and all questions will be answered.

UPDATE 2: If you are debating whether you should take this class, or if you’re wondering about your chances of getting in, just show up on 9/6 at 101 Wheeler, 6PM. We’ll answer everything in person.
