About the Course:

Perspective Magazine is a student-run non-profit publication at the University of California, Berkeley focusing on issue related to Iranian history and culture. This two-unit (P/NP) course is designed to supplement the education of journalism and students interested in issue relating to Iran at UC Berkeley, and is therefore geared toward three important goals:

·Successfully publish Perspective Magazine, which explores the past, present, and future of Iranian historical and cultural topics
·Introduce students to journalism and the production of a professional publication
·Create a forum for debate and discussion and thus encourage students to think critically about topics and issues relating to Iran

Students are required to write at least two 750-word articles relating to the given theme of the publication.  This bi-annual publication will publish 22 articles selected based on the quality as well as effort and participation in class. Students must do outside research for their articles.

Class time is dedicated to serve as a forum for discussing the pertinent theme of the magazine as well as provide instruction and aid for researching and writing articles, peer editing, and necessary InDesign and Photoshop skills needed for basic production. Guest speakers will also attend to discuss relevant topics.

How to Enroll:

CCNs will be distributed to those that come to the first two sessions of class.

Class will begin on Wednesday September 12.
