About the Course:

Peru is host to a dynamic economic and political situation, environmental and human rights concerns, and development related issues. Through student participation and engaged discussions, we intend to provide students with a broad overview of current issues in Peru in preparation for a service trip with Green Poverty Alleviation in which students will apply their knowledge and get real life experience in the field of global development.  The class will involve in-depth research focusing on development approaches, education, human rights and environmental issues.  Guest speakers, group presentations, community outreach, a research paper, and in-class discussions will allow students to analyze development issues discussed in class.  It is recommended that students who enroll in this course have a background in Spanish as the class will be taught in both English and Spanish.

How to Enroll:

Although the service trip to Peru is not required, we expect that all students who wish to take this course intend to participate.  The dates of the Service trip will be December 27th, 2007- January 17th, 2007
