community service /
field work course

About the Course:

Throughout the semester, students will collaboratively prepare lesson plans on different health topics each week and present them at Emerson Elementary's after-school program. Such pertinent topics include nutrition, physical health, emotional health, environmental health, personal hygiene and more. Our goal is to ultimately teach kindergartners fun ways to stay healthy!

Class will always start in 80 Barrows every Friday. Each week we will focus solely on a given health theme (e.g., nutrition). The first hour of class is dedicated to forming groups, brainstorming health topics relevant to the theme, and preparing lesson plans which will be presented in the following week. During the second hour, we will all walk over to Emerson Elementary School (near Clark Kerr) and present our lessons formed the previous week. The brainstorming and presentations will all occur during this two-hour time slot, yet outside preparation, collaboration and completion of three short writing assignments will also be required.

How to Enroll:

CCNs will be given during the first meeting, which will be Friday 2/5 at 2:20pm
