About the Course:

Ever wanted to try taiko drumming? Come learn both the art form and the cultural background of this Japanese tradition!

Through taking this course, students will learn of the cultural and historical background of taiko drumming in both Japan and North America, as well as the physical technique from Cal Taiko, UC Berkeley's Japanese drumming performance ensemble.

Classes will be held from 7 - 9 PM on Wednesdays, with each session consisting of a mix of both lecture / discussion and time spent practicing taiko.

Grades will be based in large part on attendance, as well as a few short papers due over the course of the semester. The very last day of class will consist of a performance put on by the students, open for the public to come see what they have accomplished!
