About the Course:

The main focus of this course is to involve undergraduates in an outreach program that aims at spreading health awareness among elementary school children, in regards to eating healthy, personal hygiene, dental health, physical health, flu prevention, and various other health-related topics. The curriculum for the decal course will be divided into two components:

·         Preparing lesson plans on outlined weekly topics through research and collaborative group work

·         Delivering the lessons at Emerson elementary school's after school program

Throughout the semester, students enrolled in this course will have the opportunity to explore different health issues through group work in class and lesson presentation at Emerson. Lessons will be developed every other week. Students will have clearly set goals and will be supported by the facilitators to complete them throughout the semester. The two hour classtime  is intended to allow students enough time to complete most of the lesson presentation preperation in class, in collaboration with the other students.

We hope this course to be a great learning experience for everyone involved. There will be room for a lot of creativity, and you will have freedom to experiment with different techniques of teaching.

Please feel free to contact one of us if you have any further questions about the class or to learn more about HIKE on campus visit "http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~hike/"
