About the Course:

Birth control has been around for centuries. In ancient times, lemon juice and herbs were used as contraceptives. Today, scientists have developed new forms of birth control by manipulating the hormones in our bodies. As contraceptives have become more developed, it has also become indisputably more common and prevalent in today’s generation. Through Obama’s Affordable Care Act, the oral pill has become 100% covered in the UC health care plan. Since contraceptives have become increasingly accessible and affordable, it is important to educate ourselves about the different types and their effects on our bodies.

This lecture styled course along with guest speakers is designed to broaden and educate students’ knowledge of the efficacy and uses of various birth control methods. We will address major hormones during the female menstrual cycle, pregnancy, different methods, uses, and ethical concerns of birth control. We will also give an overview of fertility, STI/STDs, and sex anatomy/ toys. Students do not need prior knowledge in biology, but having a background in the sciences can be helpful. The scope of this course can be expanded to fit the needs of the student.

We welcome and encourage students of ALL genders :) Although this is an MCB decal, we welcome ALL majors and no previous knowledge is required! There will be a few short assignments that will help broaden your knowledge, guest speakers, and great discussion!
