About the Course:

The goal of this course is to examine the social, political, psychological and emotional implications of six British and American plays spanning from the 1940s to 1970s.

  1. Tennessee Williams, A Streetcar Named Desire (1947)
  2. Edward Albee, A Delicate Balance (1966)
  3. Harold Pinter, Betrayal (1978)
  4. Joe Orton, Loot (1967)
  5. Thornton Wilder, The Skin of Our Teeth (1942)
  6.  Tom Stoppard, Travesties (1976)

The course will be focused primarily on active discussion of the plays, and everyone's participation is highly encouraged. Those of you who aren't English majors should have no problem with the course: assignments will be light and the reading schedule manageable. And if you still aren't convinced, rumors have recently surfaced that the English Department's very own Kent Puckett will be stopping by from time to time to sign autographs and pose for publicity and commemorative photos.
