About the Course:

Have you ever wanted to learn how to converse with Cantonese-speaking friends, order Dim Sum in Chinatown, or understand Hong Kong movie dialogue or song lyrics? Well this is the class for you! This class will teach you how to introduce yourself in Cantonese to that cute international student and impress your friends with funny slangs! Learn about Cantonese culture and food in a fun seminar environment full of other excited students.

There are no prerequisites for the course, though we cannot accept fluent Cantonese speakers (defined as someone who can carry on a conversation rather well. If you are unsure of your level, come to orientation and we can assess your abilities). We do take native Mandarin speakers, as long as they do not speak much Cantonese.

Beginner classes are for students with little to no exposure to the language.

Intermediate classes are for students with some exposure and can at least introduce themselves in Cantonese. Students who pass the beginner class may also be eligible for the intermediate level.

Other relevant information can be found on the syllabus. If you find yourself asking a question that the syllabus doesn't answer, please don't hesitate to shoot us an e-mail :)
