About the Course:

Argentine tango is a popular social dance enjoyed in communities around the world. In this course, students will be introduced to the history and development of the dance as well as the music which propels it. Students will be taught the basic movements, rhythms, and stylings of Argentine tango, and with the aid of the facilitators, create and experience a social environment reflective of bay-area tango today. In this course, students will acquire an understanding of what it means to dance socially with dancers outside of the classroom. No partner or prior experience in the Argentine Tango required; an openness to its challenges is.

How to Enroll:

Grading Policy

60% Attendance and participation. Two absences are excused.* Students are responsible for emailing the course facilitator if they expect to be absent.

40% Course project: Students will be assigned a tango-related topic and will present to the rest of the class.

*Failure to maintain an 80% attendance record will result in a grade of No Pass. If a student misses more than two classes, they will be placed on probation. Once on probation, if any additional absences occur the student will automatically gain a grade of No Pass (NP).

First day of class is on Thursday, August 30th, 7pm in Dwinelle room 182. Please come if you're interested in enrolling. CCN will be given out the third week of class.
