Introduction to Korean Tradition Percussion
About the Course:
This DeCal is taught by memebers of EGO, Cal's one and only Korean traditional percussion group. This semester, we will be teaching Samulnori (specifically, Utdari Samulnori). Students will learn how to play either Jang-gu or Pu'k (two of the main Korean Percussion instruments).
A reader about Korean Traditional Percussion will be available at Copy Central.
Only one unexcused absence is allowed for this course.
No Exams, but we will have short weekly assignments.
Students are expected to participate in small Samulnori performance at the end of semester (This is Mandatory!)
We highly encourage you to attend the EGO Orientation on August 31 (location TBA), where you can meet EGO members, previous DeCal students and listen to the full Utdari Samulnori.
We will also perform at Calapalooza (Thursday, August 23rd, 3:30-7:00 pm) and DeCal EXPO (Friday, August 24th 5:00-7:00pm), so come out and get idea of Korean Percussion.
