About the Course:

Come get units for playing in a band!

 This course is about students who are not necessarily music majors having the chance to learn to play and perform music in various settings. The class will involve each student preparing music of their choice for the whole ensemble to learn. Like this, the class will turn into a musical collective with a repertoire of performable pieces.

Requirements:

- Audition of an instrument of student’s choice (including vocals, guitar, drums, bass, piano, as well as horns, string instruments, and any other less-traditional instruments), evaluated on skills and ability to learn new music (you do not need to know how to read sheet music!). Students can audition either individually or in groups. We cannot guarantee that we have your instrument, so be prepared for the possibility of bringing some of your own equipment.

 - Participation, willingness to work with others, and ability to learn parts.

 -Quality of projects (facilitators will work strongly with the entire group, but it is the student’s responsibility to work with others to make sure their project fulfills their vision).

-         Two brief writing assignments.

-         Attendance at class and mandatory performances.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Attendance is extremely important. Because this is a performance based class, students cannot pass the class without attending performances and classes. And you won’t want to miss class anyway!

How to Enroll:

Auditions will take place Thursday August 30 from 5-7 PM, at 134 Morrison. Send me an email at aniku@berkeley.edu with any questions or if there is a time conflict. This is low pressure, and is basically to guage the prospective class's abilities and styles.

Send me an email with your name and instrument if you want to try out, so I can set up a schedule for the audition day.
