About the Course:

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to spend two years of your life as a Peace Corps volunteer?

This class incorperates a new Peace Corps volunteer each week. These guest speakers give students an in-depth understanding of Peace Corps life all over the world. You’ll learn the highs and the lows of being a Peace Corps volunteer, what the application process is like, where you can go, what you can do, what it’s like to be a community development volunteer as opposed to an English teacher, and an array of other things such as the way in which volunteers achieved success at their posts.

In addition, through these guest speakers students will get a chance to learn about the way in which people live in places like Suriname, Guatemala, Romania and Niger. You’ll find that people all over the world subsist differently, value different things, eat different foods, listen to an array of different music, speak different languages, and hold different religious beliefs than many individuals in the U.S. Yet, at the same time we are alike in many ways. These differences and commonalities will not only expand your knowledge of the world, they will make you think about the way in which you live your life as an American.

In addition to these guest speakers students will learn about current events in our world through weekly reading of the “BBC News”.

This is an exciting class in which you will learn all you ever desire to know about the Peace Corps, different cultures, and current events around the world. I hope to see all people considering the Peace Corps at the first class meeting! :)
