About the Course:

✈ ✈ ✈ ✈ ✈ ✈

Perhaps it was the first time you saw an airplane fly across the sky and wondered what it's like to be a pilot. Or maybe you're curious about how planes fly and navigate the friendly skies. If you're interested in aviation for any reason, then you've caught the flying bug! And we have just the cure for that.

Learn to Fly: Private Pilot Ground School is a course designed to reveal the wonders of aviation to you right here in Berkeley and prepare you for the journey to become a Private Pilot.

You'll learn the fundamentals and concepts to be a safe and competent Private Pilot. In the classroom, we will cover everything from airplane systems, aerodynamics, radio procedures, navigation, weather, and much more.

PREREQUISITES:

-None other than a good attitude and a will to learn.

Fun Fact: Did you know that having a good moral character is a FAA requirement (FA§61.163c) to become an airline pilot?

COURSE FORMAT:

The course will mainly be lecture-based w/student input in a classroom setting. Throughout lessons, there will be stories from aviation history and tie-ins to engineering where relevant. See the website or syllabus for the teaching schedule.

Please note: There will be no actual or required flying involved. There are many issues to this. However, we do know first flights (called Discovery Flights at flight schools) are an unforgettable experience. More information will be given on the first class as the facilitators work with the grown-ups and discuss options.

There will be weekly homework. Class attendance is mandatory. A final presentation in groups will conclude this course.
