Chamber Music for Fun
About the Course:
Our DeCal is aimed at providing a music performing opportunity for non-music majors at Berkeley. If you are searching to continue your involvement in playing and performing chamber music, come to the first meeting and check out our decal!
When and where are auditions?
Wednesday 9/7 from 5-10pm
Friday 9/9 from 5-10pm
Monday 9/12 from 5-10pm
When is the first meeting?
This Friday, September 2, 2011 7PM at 125 Morrison!!
It should last no longer than half an hour.
If you are unable to attend the first meeting but are interested in auditioning, please email us an audition date and time that works for you and we will confirm the time- also, fill out the application form (see below) and bring it to the audition.
Who should join?
Non-music majors who are looking to continue playing their instrument in a small ensemble setting without having to worry too much about grades.
Do I have to perform at a certain level to join?
As long as you are comfortable with your instrument, we welcome you to come to our first meeting. The purpose of this decal is to offer a chance for people who have already been playing and would like to continue.
What musical pieces are played?
Chamber music pieces (mostly)! Each ensemble gets to choose their own music, and in the past, we've had classical, contemporary, and jazz. We welcome all styles, but it depends if there are others willing to play that genre.
How are the groups formed?
At the end of the first meeting, students sign up for audition times and perform a short piece to show us at what level they are. We then form groups based on instrumentation and level.
How competitive is it to get in?
Because we base acceptance on instrumentation and level, it really depends on what and how many instruments are auditioning. So we don’t know either until after the auditions are over. However, cellos and violas are encouraged to audition.
When and where is the class held?
This class can work around any schedule! Groups rehearse for 90 minutes each week in Morrison. Each ensemble meets individually, so you only have to coordinate your schedule with a few other people.
I didn’t know about this Decal, and I left my instrument at home in socal (or wherever you are from)! What can I do??
If you cannot retrieve it from home, you can try the music office in Morrison hall to see if they can lend you an instrument to audition on. If not, you may have to ask a friend or a fellow auditionee.
More information will be given out at the meeting, or you can email us questions at our course contact E-mail.
How to Enroll:
CCN information and more will be given out during the first meeting on 9/2/11
