About the Course:

This course seeks to chart and examine the course of the Camelot legend, from its inception under the pen of Geoffrey of Monmouth, to its wartime reinvention by T.H. White. The coursework will consist of reading selections from the works of more than half a dozen individual authors, spanning the 12th to 20th centuries; these readings will be supplemented by discussions and guest lectures on the background and intentions of each author, their version of the legend, and the times in which they lived. We will also watch videos relating to the material, ranging from Wagner’s Parsifal opera to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. There will be short responses to the readings and videos, in which the students will be expected to recognize and explain the significance and context of the legend’s development.

How to Enroll:

Several spots are still open; additional CCNs will be given out during the Wednesday 1/31 session. You can, however, still email me for a CCN ahead of time.
