About the Course:
The first part of this course will explore major differences between mythical thought and modern thought. The second part will show how myth changes along with culture—from the myths of the hunter-gatherers, through the myths of the early agricultural civilizations, to the religious and intellectual revolutions of the Axial Age of 800 to 200 BC.
The course reader consists of myths drawn from a wide variety of cultures. Class will be discussion-based.
