About the Course:
This course is geared towards giving Berkeley students an insight into the inner workings of the upcoming programs at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive in Fall 2010.
Classes will consist of a short lecture or film on the methods and artwork of these artists, and a lab period where students can discuss the artwork and create their own works of art using the techniques of the artists. These classes will be supplemented with trips to the museum and film archive, as well as guest lectures by the museum’s curatorial staff and by local artists. The course will also correlate with events organized by the BAM/PFA Student Committee.
At the end of the course, students will have an in-depth understanding of the history and artistic techniques of the artists being shown at the BAM/PFA, as well as the work that goes into curating an exhibit or film program.
Note: Grading is based primarily on attendance and the completion of 2 short papers and a final creative project.
