About the Course:

Want to grow your own food? In this decal, you will grow fruits, vegetables, and edible mushrooms. You will also learn about our local food shed, the soil, seeds, and what forageable edibles are available in Berkeley. This hands-on course is a step deeper into the world of organic urban agriculture. Classes are located two blocks from campus in the Student Organic Garden, a historical site celebrating it's 40th year. You will learn to cultivate lettuces, kale, bok choy, carrots, beets, apples, figs, pears, grapes, potatoes, garlic, oyster mushrooms and more.  We will turn so called "waste" materials into high-quality produce. We will also culture our own foods including kombucha, kim chi, and apple cider. Expect to get your hands dirty every week, to try new foods, and to visit centers for reuse and community gardening.
