About the Course:

What makes maps powerful? What makes them appealing? How do maps work to forward particular agendas or 'truths'? What processes do cartographic practices establish and embody? And how important are maps to how we see ourselves in the world?

This course will be an exploration of these questions, and more. We will 'navigate' the space of maps and cartographic thinking with mapping activies, group discussions, readings from place and cartographic theory as well as popular literature, film screenings, field trips, and the development of a cartographic final project. Our overarching goal is to examine what makes maps meaningful, and how to make meaningful maps.

Send us an email sharing why you want to participate, and come to the first class session. You will have a choice whether to enroll for English or Geography units. If you have any questions about the class, please don't hesitate to contact us!
