About the Course:

This course will analyze how journalism is presented in American cinema and the implications of its depiction in various films. Throughout the class we will explore how journalism is portrayed in both historic and fictional stories, focusing on mainstream American films of the 20th century. Key themes include ethical boundaries of the press, investigative reporting, industry pressure, public relations, ascent of blogging, exposing injustice, and political, music, and fashion journalism. Learning outcomes for the course include using readings and films to develop analytical thinking skills, and connecting how issues raised in the films apply to the media industry and the workplace.

How to Enroll:

Please note that we have updated the syllabus to reflect that the start date is now August 30 (there is no class the following week September 6 due to Labor Day).

Please note that some films are longer and a few classes will go until 6 p.m.

Please show up the first day of class to get a CCN.
