About the Course:

This is an introductory course in learning the performance of the classical guitar. This course introduces basic skills to students who have had little or no experience with the guitar. Focus will be on essential performance techniques, note reading and elementary musicianship. Each student will need her own guitar (preferably a nylon string) and must bring it to every class meeting (you dont need it on the first day). We will be practically working on the instrument at all times during class time.

Attendance in the class is mandatory. You have to bring your guitar to class. Two absences are acceptable; any more absences will result in failing the class.  If you come without a guitar, you will be considered absent.

There would be a two part (written and performance) midterm exam, and one in class final performance, each of which contributes 40% to your overall grade. There are no make-ups for midterm or final performances, no exceptions. If you fail to take either of the midterm or the final you will fail the course. The other 20% of your grade is for a one-on-one meeting that you’ll have to plan with me either in the course of the semester or on a designated class day. This is an opportunity where we can work on your individual technical needs and problem areas. Short music pieces are assigned each week that reiterate what we learned in the previous session. These assignments will not be graded but completing them will be essential to developing performing skills that you will need in your in class performances.

How to Enroll:

To enroll, come to the first day of class and sign your name and time of arrival. If you don't show up the first session, you will not be admitted. Be there no later than Berkeley time. If too many students show up, we will use lottery. If this happens, students who came late will have no chance of admitance.

I will probably also make a waitlist. If you don't show up for the second class and I have people on the waiting list who did show up for both sessions, they will get your spot. If you don't have a guitar by the second session you might be dropped to allow people on the waitlist enroll.

I will either manually add you, or send you the CCNs via email within 2 weeks.

NOTE:

I can no longer offer this course. Since Guitar playing didn't pay the bills I had to get a job at bobsweep, the robotic vaccum cleaning company: http://www.bobsweep.com/

Maybe one day we will lunch a robotic guitar instructor! Good Luck with your musical endeavors!
