About the Course:
This course is aimed at students who are interested in exploring how knowledge learned in undergraduate science and engineering courses can be applied in real life situations. In the spirit of the MacGyver Television series we will focus on resolving (interesting) everyday problems, with scientific knowledge accumulated in the first few years of a science or engineering degree.
Ultimately, we will applied these to solve particular problems in practical sessions with a time limit of two hours. There will be no predefined solution to these problems so that the focus is on creative thinking. To be able to solve these problems we will have lecture style theory sessions, where we will review any crucial elementary Physics, Chemistry and Engineering. We will also have discussion sessions, in which we will discuss similar situations to what will be found in the practical sessions and explore other interesting applications to theory.
This course is a chance for science and engineering majors to do some fun stuff with all those volumes of text book knowledge!
How to Enroll:
Participants should have at least two semesters of physics. A basic knowledge of chemistry and engineering practices will be helpful, but not necessary. Ideally, students are second or third year science/engineering majors.
CCN’s will be given in class.
