Who should join?
Non-music majors who are looking to continue playing their instrument in a small ensemble setting without having to worry too much about grades.

What musical pieces are played?
Chamber music pieces (mostly)!  Each ensemble gets to choose their own music.  In the past, we've had classical, contemporary, and jazz. We welcome all styles, but it depends if there are others willing to play that genre.

How are the groups formed? When do I get the CCN?

At the end of the first meeting, students sign up for audition times and perform a short piece for us. We then form groups based on instrumentation and level.  We next hold a second meeting where students meet their group members and receive their CCNs.

How competitive is it to get in?
Because we base acceptance on instrumentation and level, it really depends on what and how many instruments are auditioning. We don’t know either until after the auditions are over. However, cellos and violas are strongly encouraged to audition.

When and where is the class held?
This class can work around any schedule!  Groups rehearse for 90 minutes each week in Morrison.  Each ensemble meets individually, so you only have to coordinate your schedule with a few other people.

I didn’t know about this Decal, and I left my instrument at home! What can I do?

If you cannot retrieve your instrument from home, you can try the music office in Morrison hall to see if they can lend you an instrument to audition with. If not, you may have to ask a friend or a fellow auditionee.
