About the Course:



  • Students are required to apply to at least 10 internship sites in Washington, DC.
  • Students are required to attend every class, but are allowed two excused absences during the semester.
  • Other than professional development and internship search-related assignments, students will submit a group policy project at the end of the semester on a policy topic of their choosing.


GRADING: Grades are based on a P/NP scale.  A "Pass" for this course is dependent upon completion of ALL assignments and attendance.  DeCal attendance and participation is mandatory.  A valid excuse must be submitted to a student's designated director, in writing, 24 hours prior to the start of class.  Three unexcused absences will result in expulsion form the program (without refunds for housing payments) and a "Not Pass" grade.

Course grade breakdown: Internship application assignments (30%), Policy project (30%), Attendance (20%), Participation (20%) 

CALENDAR: CITC will have weekly speakers who are experts in specific policy areas, as well as alumni networking events, professional development workshops, and opportunities to work on their group policy projects during class time. 

How to Enroll:

Public Policy 98/198 is available only to students who have been accepted to the Cal in the Capital program in Fall 2009.  Students will be provided the course's CCN and logistical enrollment information on the first day of class.
