About the Course:

Race, education, and homosexuality are immense issues that permeate many aspects of American life. These issues are intertwined with one another, and it is this connection that we will be exploring in the DeCal class “Race, Education, and Homosexuality.” The some of the questions we will answer in the class are (in no particular order):

1. What are the perceptions or stereotypes of homosexuality in different ethnic groups? And what do we do to change this?

2. What is the role of education in teaching our children about homosexuality and race relations?

3. How has race relations changed and how will it change as Barack Obama is America’s first African American president?

We will also be discussing related topics that pertain to the individual subjects of race, education, and homosexuality.

How to Enroll:

If you are interested in taking this decal, please email either Nikki or Alan so we can have an idea  of how many people I would have to accomodate. Please show up the first day of class if you would like to get into this DeCal. You will receive a course control number for the course to input in your telebears. It is very important that you try to show up the first day of class because there are only 50 spots available for the class. It is based on a first come first serve basis. The tentative start date for this DeCal is Tuesday September 1st; however, this is subject to change. The classroom location will be posted on here by Mid-August.

PLEASE NOTE: The posted syllabus is very tentative. Please don't read ahead because we will be announcing many changes the first day of class and will post a newly updated syllabus shortly.
