Everyday Hindi
About the Course:
Hindi is one of the twenty-two official languages of the republic of India, a language with over 700 million speakers throughout the world. Besides being inextricably, overwhelmingly linked to popular culture through its presence in modern film and music, Hindi is also intimately associated with India’s literary and artistic history.
This course aims to provide a comfortable and friendly atmosphere in which students already acquainted with the Hindi language can further develop and improve communication and conversational skills. Students will be introduced, on a weekly basis, to one or more topics and be asked to speak on them at length, in pairs, small groups and as a class. Topics are selected in particular for their relevance to casual, everyday conversation.Besides oral competency, students will also develop listening skills through the use of short skits, film clips and music. Students will further develop listening skills by practicing with one another. The overall aim is to help students achieve the ability to confidently speak, listen and otherwise interact with native speakers of the language.
