About the Course:

This course examines Batman as American mythology and beyond! Because no mythology exists in a vacuum, we will compare Batman to various real-life contexts and influences. During class time we will watch shorter visual content during class and will show longer ones during weekend movie screenings. Course content will encompass Batman cartoons, TV shows, serials, movies, and comics, analyzed in terms of three broad disciplines:

  • History: Batman’s evolution through each decade suiting current trends
  • Sociology: Social changes reflected in specific Batman works
  • Psychology: Psychological cases and concepts portrayed by Batman and other characters

How to Enroll:

Students will show up to the first day of class, get their name on a roster, and then we will randomly draw names. Enrolled students will receive the CCN in the confirmation email.
