Spring 2009 - UGBA 98/198 - Units: 2
Shortcuts: decal.org/928 decal.org/wealth
Course description - We will be covering the topic of becoming financially independent and wealthy, suggesting the path of small business start-up coupled with educated investment, tax planning, and consumption habits. We will explore common “myths” about salaries, taxes, and quality of life regarding top college graduates and conversely how to prepare now to get ahead and stay ahead. In addition, we will spend significant time discussing and developing important entrepreneurial skills such as leadership, decision making, goal setting, sales, and management, among others.
We will use a variety of teaching methods including lecture, discussion, small groups, active learning, and reading. Over the duration of the course, we will bring in a few guest speakers who have “made it” in various fields.
Course learning objectives - The objective of this course is to not only give each student a realistic picture of the real financial world once they graduate Cal, but to also equip each student with a basis for the necessary skills and information they will need to begin their journey toward financial independence.
