About the Course:

Welcome to the Taiwanese Decal!

Interested in learning a new language? (Or interested in finding out what your parents are really talking about when they speak in Taiwanese at home?) Interested in understanding more about Taiwan – its people, food, customs and culture – perhaps even sampling some Taiwanese snacks?

The Taiwanese Language Decal is designed to teach students the Taiwanese language, and also help students gain a better understanding of Taiwan, its people and culture. The Decal is offered at the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels and meets twice a week (MW or TTh) from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.

The beginner level is designed for students with none, or extremely little experience in Taiwanese.

The intermediate level is designed for students who have taken the beginner level course, or are able to speak and understand Taiwanese at a basic level.

The advanced level is designed for students who have a certain degree of fluency in Taiwanese or have at a very minimum taken the intermediate level course.

(If you are interested in taking the advanced level course, it is advised you contact one of the instructors before the class begins.)

Please refer to the syllabi attached below for additional information and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

How to Enroll:

Orientations have been cancelled. Please show up to the section which you wish to attend on either 2/2 or 2/3.

Students who do not show up on the first day of class will not receive a CEC.

Classes will begin on 2/2 (MW sections) and 2/3 (TuTh sections). CEC and CCNs will be given out after the second day of class. You must attend both the first and second classes to receive a CEC.

We would like to keep our class sizes to a maximum of 25 students and hence, depending on the level of interest, there may be an application process - this will be determined on the first day of class.
