Perform and Produce Hippolytus-- Greek Tragedy (Theater)
Spring 2009 - Classics 98/198 - Units: 1
Shortcuts: decal.org/893 decal.org/tragedy
This course is the second half of Fall 2008's Classics Department DeCal, "Collaborative Greek Theater" in which we selected a Greek Tragedy for performance, amended the script to a 60-75 minute production, publicized and held auditions, and secured funding for the spring performance. Over winter break our cast will be memorizing lines for the Spring Production through this DeCal. This course will provide the "planning group" a structured meeting time from which to plan and run the spring production. Methods of instruction primarily include running Play rehearsals, lecture, and collaborative planning. Student performance is evaluated solely on attendance.
Course Objectives/ Learning Outcomes
n Divide management of the production into publicity, props, costumes and rehearsal directors
n Hold weekly rehearsals for chorus and actors; enforce attendance
n Hold a dance audition, Thursday January 22 and cast dancers for the choreographer to set movement on.
n Make costumes for a cast of 20-25 based on Greek vase paintings, secure props and masks
n Work within the budget to create a performance in the Hearst Greek Theater.
n Attain a basic level of familiarity with technical theater through directed readings.
