About the Course:

The past century has been marked with a profusion of international human rights legislation and the development of important judicial bodies to enforce this legislation which have provided the means for people around the globe to assert their basic human rights.  Despite the establishment of these essential tools and legislation, human rights violations remain at the forefront of international concerns because of a lack of access and education about these rights.  In this course, students will gain a foundational knowledge of international human rights legislation and become experts on human rights issues in a chosen world region or country.  Students will develop a research project that outlines the human rights concerns in their chosen region and outline legislation, propose solutions, and develop an educational curriculum to help people of the region assert their rights.
