About the Course:

This is a performance course in which students learn to play the Chinese erhu.

This is a course for beginners, there are no prerequisites, and it is open to all interested students. Class meets once a week for two hours.

Students will learn to read music and become familiar with how to properly play the instrument. Students will be required to practice the weekly assignments out of class time. After completing the course, students should be able to perform three traditional erhu pieces as well as various exercises.

The music department will only be able to provide 3 or 4 erhus for this DeCal, so students will be encouraged to provide their own instruments (more information will be given on the first day).

How to Enroll:

The first class is scheduled to meet during the second week of instruction on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. Attendance is MANDATORY if you wish to enroll in the course.

Show up to the first class to receive syllabus and to go over course requirements and expectations. Enrollment will begin after the first class.

Contact the student facilitator if you have any questions or if you cannot make the first class.
