Run Forest Run! A Rundown of the Representation of Politics in American Films
Fall 2008 - Political Science 98/198 - Units: 2
Shortcuts: decal.org/808 decal.org/filmpolitics
The subject matter of this course will be a survey of politics presented through American cinema and how it is related to current events and the subject matter of the film, as well as what the director might have been trying to say through his film. Through out this course we will evaluate the different ways that politics is portaryed- both through politically centered films, and films that don't seem to be political at all. Our focus will be on mainstream American produced and directed films. All of these films were made to be entertaining films; but they can be studied and evaluated for deeper meanings and themes. These themes include: war, society, poverty, race, satire, innocence, paranoia, and personal growth.
We are watching some amazing films, everything from- Citizen Kane and Mr.Smith Goes to Washinging to The Goonies and Apocalypse Now (and of course Forest Gump)
