Using films that portray different periods of Vietnamese history such as French colonialism, early Vietnam War, post Vietnam War, and the current period, students will be presented with a broad view of Vietnamese history and a general perspective of Vietnamese society. Throughout the course, the diversity and richness of Vietnamese culture will be introduced from many different angles. Students will also perceive the Vietnamese’ ways of thinking during those time periods.

Students are expected through watching, analyzing, and discussing past and contemporary Vietnamese films to appreciate Vietnamese culture, understand Vietnamese’ ways of thinking, and the history of Vietnam.
