Bookworlds: Intro Into the Writings of Jules Verne
Spring 2008 - Comparative Literature 98/198 - Units: 2
Shortcuts: decal.org/615
What do 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in 80 Days, and Journey to the Center of the Earth have in common? They are only a few of the 50+ Extraordinary Voyages that Jules Verne created during the later half of the 19th century. He penned adventures that took us through every natural extremity on the earth and beneath the sea, around the world and to the moon, and to lost civilizations both real and fictional. He continues to captivate readers today just as he captured the minds of Europe in the shifting 1800s.
Not only is Jules Verne an excellent writer, he is a sort of prophet of the things to come. He wrote of submarines, of the technology to manuever hot air balloons, and of spacecraft long before any successful developments made traveling under the sea a reality. Jules Verne foresaw more than just scientific technology in the future - care to find out more?
